Moroccan Bath, the Traditional Hammam
The Moroccan bath, or hammam, is a cleansing ritual with a long history across North Africa and the Arab world. At Danat Spa in Al Ain it takes place in a private hammam room, so the whole ritual is yours alone.
Warmth and steam soften the skin, traditional black soap cleanses, and a kessa scrub lifts away dead skin from head to toe. Many guests are surprised by how smooth their skin feels afterwards.

Softened skin
Opens the pores and relaxes the muscles before cleansing.
Deep cleanse
Traditional Moroccan black soap, applied over the body.
Smoother skin
A thorough exfoliation with a kessa mitt for smoother skin.
Yours alone
The hammam room is reserved for you during your ritual.

What to Bring
- Nothing special: we tell you on booking what is provided
- Drink water before and after, as the heat is dehydrating
- Avoid shaving or waxing on the same day
- Leave jewellery and valuables at home if you can
Add a Massage
Your skin is freshly scrubbed and your muscles warm, so a massage straight after feels especially good. An Arabic oil massage or full body massage are popular pairings. Tell us when you book.

- Skip heavy exercise and strong sun for the rest of the day.
Do you offer a Moroccan bath?
Yes: steam, black soap and a kessa scrub in a private hammam room.
How often should I have a Moroccan bath?
There is no fixed rule. Some guests come once a month, others before a special occasion. Give your skin a few days to settle between scrubs.
Is the scrub painful?
The kessa scrub is firm but should not hurt. If your skin is sensitive, tell the therapist and the pressure will be lighter.
Can I add a massage?
Yes. A massage straight after the hammam is a popular combination. Mention it when you book so we can reserve the time.
Is a Moroccan bath suitable for everyone?
The heat and steam are not suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or blood pressure concerns, or have broken or irritated skin, please tell us when you book and check with your doctor first.
